Book Hill French Market

Art Historian Vanessa Badré will discuss her research on the art & architecture of Versailles Palace on Friday, April 24 at 12 p.m.

The talk is part of our festivities held in honor of the Book Hill French Market.

The Château de Versailles is one of the most beautiful achievements of 17th- and 18th-century French art. This magistral palace is a symbol of royal absolutism and the king's most ostentatious display of power.

Versailles is usually seen as the ultimate perfection of classical French art. However, there was a long history of political and artistic exchange between China and France during the 18th century. Paintings, furniture, lacquerware and porcelains illustrate France’s taste for Chinese artistic productions. China is at the heart of French artistic creation, by imitation and adaptation.

Discover the Chinese influences on this very French Palace while you take a break from the French Market!
