Developing Creativity in Young Children

On April 2 at 4 p.m., Joe Cepeda, illustrator of beloved books Mice and Beans by Pam Muñoz Ryan, Big Bushy Mustache by Gary Soto and Peeny Butter Fudge by Toni Morrison, will be giving a workshop for children age 4 and older.

Capitalizing on the exuberance of young minds, this workshop looks to plant the seeds of innovation. Through drawing and interactive demonstrations that will engage and inspire, children will realize what it is to be a creator, to be an innovator. Anything is possible when a young person feels they have the basic tools of invention right at hand.

From his personal experience, his education, his professional life as a children's book illustrator, Cepeda will captivate and inspire these future artists, doctors and engineers to have the confidence needed to begin their creative lives.

His latest work, Swing Sisters: The Story of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm by Karen Deans, will be featured.
