Succeed...like a GIRL!

Women's History Month

As March comes to a close, so does the celebration of Women's History Month, but we at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library have had a wonderful time reading and learning about extraordinary girls and women!

Among our favorite finds:

Mo'ne Davis: Remember My Name by Monique Davis and Hillary Beard
Whether you've seen her on the cover of Sports Illustrated, or guarding Kevin Hart at the NBA all-star game, you know that Mo'ne Davis is a young lady who strives for excellence! This book covers her journey through sports to her now famous Little League World Series appearance, in which she became the first girl to pitch a shutout game.

Girls Hold Up This World by Jada Pinkett Smith
Written in prose, this book is accompanied by excellent photographs of girls and women all shapes and sizes, including the author and her family.

Extraordinary Girls by Maya Ajmera, Olateju Omolodun and Sarah Strunk
With each affirmation given -- "Girls are courageous," "Girls are environmentalists," etc. -- the authors have found examples of such young ladies throughout the world, who have indeed performed extraordinary tasks.

The Who Is/ Who Was series is an excellent way to to learn about fascinating people, among those Gloria Steinem and Eleanor Roosevelt. Both books were written with anecdotes about what made makes them such extraordinary women.

Check out these finds, and remember that it's always a great time to read about great girls and wonderful women!
