Neighborhood Heroes: Sterling Allen Brown

Monday, June 15, 2015, 7 p.m.

Join us to hear E. Ethelbert Miller, poet and longtime director of the Afro-American Studies Resource Center at Howard University, present his research on Sterling Allen Brown, poet, literary critic, and an expert on Southern Black folklore.

Brown grew up in Howard County, graduated at the top of his class from Dunbar High School, and taught at Howard for four decades from the 1930s through the 1960s. Mr. Miller will bring Brown’s intellectual career and poetic imagination to life as he describes Brown’s involvement with the Harlem Renaissance in Washington, D.C.
