Movie of the Month

George Lucas's 'Star Wars'

On May 19, at 6 p.m., join us for our Movie of the Month, as we revisit George Lucas's modern classic (also known as Episode IV - A New Hope), the film that launched an empire.

While avid fans breathlessly await Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, due this December, take time to appreciate the original film, released in 1977. Written and directed (and eventually re-edited and renumbered) by Lucas, the original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill.

From the moment the words, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...."  scrolled on the screen, Star Wars - modeled on Saturday serials and Kurosawa films - made movie history. This influential film featured groundbreaking special effects and was one of the most profitable of all time, winning a special place in the hearts of science fiction and adventure fans around the world. It has also inspired many fiction titles peopled by the citizens of the Galactic Empire.

Too busy to join us? Remember that December is not so far away. Until then, may the Force be with you.
