Giggle-Inducing Books

Have some fun with your little one

Sharing books with your little one can be full of fun, smiles and giggles. Check out one of these books and find out how much fun storytime can be!

The Watermelon Seed by Gred Pizzoli
This book was the 2014 winner of the Giesel Award for good reason. It's one of my absolute favorites to share with preschoolers and early elementary students, really with anyone who is old enough to have tried watermelon and wondered what would happen if you swallowed a seed. The imaginative panic of the adorable crocodile when he actually does swallow a seed is hilarious and endearing.

Let’s Sing a Lullaby with the Brave Cowboy by Jan Thomas
Get ready to sing some campfire lullabies with this not so brave cowboy. Practice your shrieks and squeals as our cowboy comes across imaginary spiders and a real wolf! Jan Thomas's cute illustrations make this story much more silly than scary.

Niño Wrestles the World by Yuyi Morales
Niño is one cute little Lucha Libre champion who goes head to head with many opponents wearing his costume of underwear and a Lucha Libre mask. The Mummy of Guanajuato, the stone Olmec Head, La Llorona, the Alien, and the devil-like El Chamuco are no match for him, but when his little twin sisters, Las Hermanitas, wake up from their nap it looks like El Niño
 has met his match.

Clip Clop by Nicola Smee

This book is best served during a laptime storytime. As Mr. Horse gives his friends Cat, Dog, Pig, and Duck a ride you can bounce your little one faster and faster until the "Wooooah!"

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems
Mo Willems is a genius when it comes to humorous picture books. It's hard to choose just one of his, so I recommend you check them all out! From Elephant & Piggie to Leonardo the Terrible Monster you are sure to find one that you and your kids will enjoy. Pigeon is my favorite, though. His never ending interest in buses, hot dogs, and not taking a bath will crack you up.

Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton
For me, Sandra Boynton is the queen of board books. Her sweet illustrations and funny text will charm both you and your little one. Her books are great for babies and toddlers. It's amazing the humor she can get across with such simple text. Moo Baa La La La is a fun play on all those books with farm animal sounds.

Dinosaur vs. Mommy by Bob Shea
The newest installment of the Dinosaur vs. books pits this cute and mischievous little dino against mommy. Get ready to roar and roar with your own little dinosaur.
I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen
This is a tale for those of you with a little bit of a darker sense of humor. A bear goes looking for his missing red hat and is almost foiled by a sneaky little rabbit. The rabbit gets it in the end, though!

Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin
Who knew that dragons loved tacos? Just make sure to avoid giving the dragons any spicy salsa, or you'll have a fire breathing mess on your hands, as one little boy learns when trying to throw a party for all his dragon friends in this story.
