'Batman: The Dark Knight Returns'

Every hero has a story.  A billionaire high tech crime-fighter is no exception. Join us as we continue our Adult Summer Reading celebration with this animated fan favorite.

Not your grandfather's Batman, this character study has been reimagined from the original Bob Kane-Bill Finger 1930's superhero franchise. Adapted from Frank Miller's graphic novel, long considered a comics masterpiece, this film reflects his complex imprint, visible on the recent live action retellings of the Batman myth, also known as The Dark Knight Trilogy.

In this version, alter-ego Bruce Wayne is a weary 55-year-old boomer who is forced to bring Batman out of retirement to redeem the crime-filled streets of Gotham. Voiced by Peter Weller (as Batman), Ariel Winter, David Selby, Wade Williams, Michael Emerson, and Mark Valley. Directed by Jay Oliva.

Parts 1 and 2 will be screened on Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. in Room A-5, on the Lower Level.

Some critics warn the film may be too intense for young children. This animated film is rated PG-13.
