Let's Talk About Death

What is a Death Cafe?

At a Death Cafe, people, often strangers, gather to drink coffee and eat cake and discuss death, dying, and end-of-life issues. We're having one at the library to be held Wednesday, July 29 at 7 p.m., with facilitators from the Dignity Memorial Network and the Washington Home & Community Hospices, and again with coffee and cake to be served.

A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion of the subject with no agenda, objectives, or themes.  It's a discussion group, not a grief support or a counseling session.  The aim is to increase awareness of death and help people make the most of their (finite) lives, with topics that may include:
  • death of another being
  • grief
  • how to live knowing that we will die
  • what is said of death in everyday contexts, such as medical centers and schools
Sooner or later, everyone dies. Join us for the Death Cafe and let's talk about it. Visit the library's catalog on the web for more on death and dying.
