Looking to take your art to the next level?

Join us for an Editorial Cartooning Workshop

You might have seen them online or even in the newspaper: editorial cartoons or political cartoons (as they are sometimes called) are illustrations or comics containing a political or social message that usually relates to current events or personalities. Cartoonists even use specific devises to get their message across.

Do you have a statement you want to make about current affairs? Meet with Ann Talnaes from The Washington Post about her work as an editorial cartoonist. Receive inspiring instruction and participate in exercises exploring the unique art of editorial cartooning, and the many ways in which art can be used to comment on contemporary issues that matter. Students will also learn how they can submit their work to the prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Awards to receive recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships.

This "Introduction to Editorial Cartooning Workshop" is for students in grades 7-11.

The workshop is sponsored by The Herb Block Foundation and presented by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Join us Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2-4:30 p.m. in the Dream Lab.
