'Black Orpheus'

Against a background of the Rio carnival, a black tram driver accidentally kills his girlfriend, and after seeking her in the nether regions, kills himself to be with her. It’s the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice set in Rio de Janeiro at Carnival time. Winner of the 1959 Academy Award for best foreign language film.

Pick up a copy of Ovid’s Metamorphoses at the library – we will be reading the 10 or so pages dedicated to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice.

As always, there will be popcorn.
