The Shepherd Park (Juanita E. Thornton) Library re-opened on March 30, 2016 after undergoing a makeover.

Interior work focused on the first and second floors, with minor work in one room on the lower level.  Exterior work involved roof repairs and addressing drainage problems.  Specifically, work included the following:
  • Three new study rooms and a new conference room
  • New flooring and paint
  • New furniture
  • Updates in the children's area
  • Power outlets at all reader tables
  • New space for teens with Mac computers
  • Updates in the vestibule
  • New space for the Friends of the Library
  • Roof repairs
  • Fix drainage issues in the front of the building
  • New exterior book drop
All interior spaces now meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

The budget for the project was approximately $1.1 million.
