Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania

Georgetown Book Club's November Selection

In his 2015 nonfiction title, Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the LusitaniaErik Larson chronicles the fate of ocean liner the RMS Lusitania, the sinking of which by German U-boat in May 1915 had far-reaching global consequences.

While the outcome of the encounter between the Lusitania and the U-20 that fired upon it is known, Larson here explores both the broader circumstances surrounding the attack and examines the lives of both those immediately and indirectly connected to it -- including Captain William Thomas Turner, who was at the helm of the Lusitania, and Captain Walther Schwieger, who piloted the U-boat that fired upon it.

Join the Georgetown Book Club as we discuss Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Copies are currently available at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, and everyone is welcome!
