Dr. Marc Lamont Hill and "Awesomely" Luvvie Ajayi Speak at Library

This September, the Library is pleased to welcome two distinct authors to discuss their highly-anticipated books at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Presented in partnership with the Oracle Group, these events are not to be missed.

Marc Lamont Hill
“Nobody: Casualties of America's War on the Vulnerable, from Ferguson to Flint and Beyond”

September 14, 7 p.m.

Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, one of the leading intellectual voices in the country. He is the host of HuffPost Live and BET News, as well as a political contributor for CNN.

Dr. Hill presents a powerful and thought-provoking analysis of race and class by examining the “Nobody” class in contemporary America. This group of citizens are made vulnerable, exploitable and disposable through the machinery of unregulated capitalism, public policy, and social practice. To make his case, Dr. Hill examines the details of events like the deaths of Michael Brown, Sandra Bland, and Freddie Gray, and the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. He also explores a host of alarming trends including mass incarceration, overly aggressive policing, broken court systems, shrinking job markets, and the privatization of public resources.

Dr. Hill  will be in conversation with author and professor of Sociology at Georgetown University Michael Eric Dyson.

This is a free event. A limited number of unsigned copies of Dr. Hill's book will be available for purchase on the day of the event. To register, click here.
