Prime Suspect: Tennison

Begins Sunday, June 25 on WETA

In January 1992, the British police procedural mystery "Prime Suspect" series began its inaugural American broadcast on PBS's "Mystery!", starring Helen Mirren as Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Jane Tennison. Novelist and series creator Lynda La Plante was inspired by the women who worked at Scotland Yard. The show was a success and six more seasons followed. The series finale aired in late 2007.

Now, Jane Tennison's early years on force will be told in a new series, "Prime Suspect: Tennison," starring Stefanie Martini.  As the show opens in 1973, Jane Tennison is a 22-year-old rookie policewoman when she joins a newly integrated police force.  Tennison must learn the cold facts of police work and prove herself in a male dominated work environment.

Check out all seven seasons of "Prime Suspect" from the library system.

"Prime Suspect: Tennison" begins at 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 25 on WETA-26.
