The Legacy of Harriet Tubman: A One-Woman Performance by Cortenia Smith

Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, 2 p.m.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Petworth Neighborhood Library. Join us on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. for "The Legacy of Harriet Tubman" featuring Cortenia Smith. This one-woman performance reveals the true spirit of Harriet Tubman, a legendary former slave, abolitionist and hero who defined courage and strength.  Drawn from the pages of history and passionately retold by brilliant actress, Ms. Cortenia Smith, it tells a story of survival, endurance and faith.

Cortenia Kay Smith was born and raised in China Grove, North Carolina. Having always loved to sing and perform in talent shows and at local events, she went to the Center of Expression in the Arts to study acting in 1982. Ms. Smith has been studying and working on the life of Harriet Tubman since 2009. She continues to keep the dream and Harriet’s legacy alive with her one-woman performance.

This is a great event for the entire family. We hope to see you.
