Next date: Monday, Aug. 27, 2018, 1 p.m. (see all dates)

Pre-literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they are taught these skills in school. Singing, Talking And Reading (S.T.A.R.) are important parts of early literacy that can start at birth. If you are a caregiver or parent interested in enhancing pre-literacy development, bonding and communication with your young child, join us for our S.T.A.R. Baby Signs class to incorporate sign language into your daily life.

Co-facilitated by Ms. Tea and fabulous volunteer Ms. Roxy Nino*, each vocabulary lesson will cover a variety of practical themes such as "colors" and "family." Lessons will incorporate a basic question-and-answer format with relevant vocabulary, familiar books and songs from our weekly story time sessions. Admittance to the class will be first-come, first-served, with tickets available until we reach our room capacity (50 individuals).

*After nearly 18 years supporting children’s programming for Discovery Kids, preschool development with Ready Set Learn, and  Animal Planet in New York, NY, and Silver Spring, MD, Roxy Nino moved to Southern Maryland. She is pursuing a new career path with further education in American Sign Language Interpreting and Deaf Studies. She supports making the world a #DeafFriendly place!
