Before She Was Harriet: The Story of Harriet Tubman
An Author Talk
Award-winning illustrator and author team, James E. Ransome and Lesa Cline-Ransome will visit Friday, Feb. 9, 1 to 2 p.m., to discuss their latest collaboration, Before She Was Harriet: The Life of Harriet Tubman. This event was made possible through An Open Book Foundation and staff of the Parklands-Turner Neighborhood Library.
Beginning in Harriet Tubman's later years, the story poem tells her remarkable story in reverse, detailing some of her little-known accomplishments, including the rescue of more than 700 slaves in South Carolina in one raid. Full-page watercolor images compliment a descriptive yet brief biography to be read and enjoyed, again and again.
