Set in a Gullah island community off the Georgia coast, at the dawn of the 20th century, a community of descendants of enslaved peoples from Western Africa is undergoing intergenerational tensions. Haagar seeks to move to the mainland and break away from the tradition-bound way of life of her family’s matriarch, Nana. Yellow Mary, a former sex worker, does not receive a warm welcome upon her return to the community with her lover. A family and community at a crossroads must determine their futures together or apart.

Daughters of the Dust is rated PG and should end around 12:30 p.m.
