Lecture and Discussion: "Antigone"

Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, 6:30 p.m.

The West End Library Friends present "Women against Power and Women of Power," a series of discussions led by Ori Z. Soltes, professorial lecturer in the department of theology at Georgetown University. The first installment will feature a lecture on Sophocles' Antigone.

Copies will be available for checkout at the West End Library.

In the concluding drama focused on Oedipus and his offspring, Antigone speaks truth to power and pays a price for itbut the king, her uncle, is more fundamentally done in. The question of what happens when divine law pushes up against human-made laws interweaves the obsessive focus on inter-generational and inter-general relations.
