Lecture and Discussion: "Emma"

Wednesday, April 18, 2018, 6:30 p.m.

The West End Library Friends present "Women against Power and Women of Power," a series of discussions led by Ori Z. Soltes, professorial lecturer in the department of theology at Georgetown University. The third installment will feature a lecture on Jane Austen's Emma.

The last of Austen’s completed novels, published in 1815, Emma introduces us to the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England, as well as the issues of marriage and social status filtered through age and gender—and female empowerment—through what is also a lively comedy of manners. Yes, this is guaranteed to be fun, whether or not you’ve seen the TV and film versions that have appeared over the years.
