Elizabeth Keckley Speaks: “My Life in Washington”
Celebrate Juneteenth and the life of a White House dressmaker.
Join us at Southwest Library as we celebrate Juneteenth and the life of an important Washington dressmaker.
See influential African-American Elizabeth Keckley brought to life. A little-known leader, Keckley was seamstress and confidante to Mary Todd Lincoln. This multimedia event will include a “now and then” slideshow of downtown Washington.
Performer, Ranger and Tour Guide Karima Hurt is an accomplished reenactor for the National Parks Service. She has played a variety of roles for the Parks Service, including Sally Hemings and a WWII-era canteen girl. She has also performed for the Nightly Spirits Pub Crawl, a popular tour of haunted places in historic Washington.
The performance will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room, located on the library's lower level.
