Fab Test Lab Safety Orientation

This class will serve as an introduction to the equipment available in the Fab Lab and how to be safe while using it. Completion of this orientation is required in order to sign up for most classes and certifications in the Lab. Please bring your library card and photo identification with you.

Fab Test Lab: Laser Cutter Certification

Learn everything you need to know about creating files for the laser cutter and using the machine. This class will go over the basics of laser cutting, safety procedures and the required software (Adobe Illustrator). Students will then be required to design and successfully cut a simple .svg file. Previous knowledge of design software is recommended.  All students will need to complete a Fab Test Lab Safety Orientation before they can take this class.

Fab Test Lab: 3D Printing Certification

Wednesday, June 19, 2019, 6:30 pm

Learn how to use the Ultimaker 3 in an hour long class. After certification, you will be eligible to reserve time on the Fab Test Lab's 3D printers. Please arrive promptly at the start time of the class to ensure participation. Please note that a Fab Lab Safety Orientation must be completed prior to certification.

Maker Talks: How to Sew Rubber, and Why We Should

Join us for a maker talk with Topaz Terry, please note that this is not a hands-on workshop. Ms. Terry will talk about unconventional materials and how to upcycle them into one of a kind durable goods and accessories. The talk will also include a demonstration on how to sew with rubber using Ms. Terry’s sewing machine. Ms. Topaz Terry is the sole proprietor of the DC-based business Bicycle Trash.

Fab Test Lab: 3D Printing for Kids

3D Printing for Kids: In this class, kids and their adults can learn about 3D printing and how to do it at the Fab Test Lab. We’ll talk about materials, machines and design tips, so all  you have to bring is yourself. We will also have time included for safety orientations if you and your child need them.   Don’t forget to be safe! All attendees must have completed a Safety Orientation and must have the proper certifications on file.
