Books, Bites, & Brews

Thursday, July 12, 2018, 6:30 p.m.

Books, Bites & Brews is a Book Club for 20- and 30-somethings that meets one Thursday each month at various bars and restaurants in the neighborhoods around Mt. Pleasant. For July, Books, Bites & Brews will meet at Lapis, located at 1847 Columbia Rd. NW, a short walk from the Mt. Pleasant Library.

In July, the book club will read Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud: The Rise and Reign of the Unruly Woman by Anne Helen Petersen, a series of essays exploring controversial female figures in society and pop culture, who have long been called out for just being too much. With a PhD in Media Studies, Petersen is a senior culture writer for BuzzFeed News. Her book "demands to know why we are so obsessed with the ways in which these unruly women perform their femininity — and what it finds is not flattering to a society that likes to insist that sexism is over."

Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.
