Capitol View Interim Library Closing March 16

Renovated Capitol View Library to Open March 23

The Capitol View Interim Library, located at 220 49th Street SE, will close on March 16 at 5:30 p.m. The renovated Capitol View Library, located at 5001 Central Ave. SE, will open on Saturday, March 23 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and community day starting at 11 a.m.
 
The updated library features:
- A new exterior facade
- Improved entrance into the building
- Expanded windows 
- New public art
 
A separate renovation of the building's interior was completed in 2017. The interior improvements include:
- Improved entrance into the building
- Expanded space, including more space for children, adults and teens
- Upgrades to the heating, air conditioning and electrical systems
- New computer training lab with 10 computers
- New windows
- More meeting and study spaces in varying sizes
- A new, larger elevator
- New furniture, carpet and fixtures
- Environmentally friendly design
 
During the move, Library customers can return books, DVDs and other materials can be returned at any DC Public Library. The renovation was done by the local design-build team of R. McGhee & Associates and Broughton Construction.
