Movie Night at West End: Tongues Untied

Thursday, June 13, 2019, 6 p.m.

Visit West End Library for a screening of Tongues Untied.

In filmmaker Marlon Riggs’ essay film Tongues United, the experiences and voices of Black gay men are centered, exploring their cultures and perspectives in a world where they must contend with racism, homophobia and erasure (the film was once denounced from the floor of Congress). The 1989 critically-acclaimed film was groundbreaking in its combination of poetry, music, performance and autobiographical revelations from Riggs himself. Tongues Untied was celebrated by Black gay audiences for its authentic representation of style and culture, as well its forceful response to oppression.

Tongues Untied is not rated, and should end around 7 p.m.
