Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year, 農曆新年, 中國新年 in traditional Chinese or 农历新年, 中国新年 in simplified Chinese, begins a new year for the traditional lunar calendar by marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring. For many years this holiday has been celebrated with the annual Chinese Lunar New Year Parade in D.C.'s historic Chinatown neighborhood, bringing together business leaders, local organizations and community members. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, specifically the Wood Dragon. The dragon symbolizes success, intelligence and honor and wood dragons are full of energy and dream of changing the world. Celebrate the beginning of a new year with your DC Public Library card!

In this story, Pedro is excited to celebrate Chinese New Year with his friend Katie Woo and her family. They attend a colorful parade filled with dragons and drums. But when Katie goes missing, Pedro is worried. How will he find his friend among all the bright colors and big sounds? Thankfully Pedro is ready to come to the rescue in this early chapter book.
