How Your Library Can Help You Score Your Next Job

“I have never had to write a resume, why should I write one?”

“What’s a cover letter and do I need to submit one?”

“I’m newly out of retirement, how do I start my job search?”

Staff at the Northwest One Neighborhood Library have been hearing this question for years, as I’m sure many other libraries have as well. Because of this, the library decided to start helping patrons seeking job assistance in the form of one-on-one sessions. 

Beginning in 2010, library associates and librarians began by addressing the questions surrounding how to craft cover letters/resumes. The high demand for this service quickly expanded to staff assisting patrons with applications for jobs they were interested in. 

Fast-forward 10 years and we’re still helping patrons get their foot in the door when it comes to their job hunt! We’ve stepped up our game by saving copies of resumes to DCPL flash drives that we are able to give to patrons. 

One-on-one sessions are one hour in length. Library staff request a 24-hour notice when booking and cancelling an appointment.
