Washingtoniana Interim Location Permanently Closed

The temporary Washingtoniana location in Van Ness has closed permanently as we return to the newly modernized Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.  The Library will open on Sept. 24, 2020 and we’re excited to reopen in a beautiful, expanded space with more than 50 newly processed archival collections, increased reference resources and engaging public events that support our mission to connect communities to our collections.

New archival collections include:
  • Marion Barry for Mayor Committee Records
  • DC Public Schools Family Stories Collection
  • DC Redevelopment Land Agency Photograph Collection
  • First Capital Realty Photograph Collection
  • Several collections related to D.C. Music
We continue to add exciting new content to our digital repository Dig DC including selections from the DC Oral History Collaborative Collection and issues of the Washington Blade and Women in the Life. And don’t forget about other digital resources: The new, expanded space will include Washingtoniana and Black Studies reference books documenting local history and culture, maps and microfilm resources. We will offer regularly scheduled events, including:
  • House History Research
  • Digital Preservation
  • Research 101
  • Talks from Local History Makers and Writers
We look forward to seeing you in the fall at the newly renovated Martin Luther King Jr. Library.
