Here are some books and video story books about baseball and staying fit and healthy. These items are available in the library's digital collections and aimed at preschool-aged children and their families.

Dinosaurs plus baseball, what could be better? This bright picture book features an exciting introduction to the game of baseball.

Get a Hit, Mo! by David A. Adler
This easy reader is a companion to the Geisel award winning “Don’t Throw It To Mo” and features a young boy who wants to help his team succeed on the field.

The Busy Body Book by Lizzy Rockwell
This picture book explains the importance of fitness and moving your body. If your child is interested in learning more, you can also try “Me and My Body” with activities and crafts to do and make at home.

Amazing Grace and Jackie Robinson: A Life of Determination
Bookflix pairs picture books with nonfiction books with related themes. These two stories both feature determined African American protagonists. All books on the website features related activities such as word matches and sequencing games. There also are several titles about the importance (and fun!) of staying healthy. The Gym Teacher from the Black Lagoon and Keeping Fit is one fun pair of titles, and you might also enjoy Henry Hikes to Fitchburg and I Like to Exercise.

Just Like Josh Gibson by Angela Johnson
This lyrical picture book is about a Grandma who was an amazing baseball player back in her day, coupled with a story about the best Negro League player to never make the Major Leagues. This book is available through Tumblebooks, which features animated children's books.

Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures With the Family Lazardo
This 2004 episode of Reading Rainbow includes a visit with the Oakland Athletics and a book about a baseball-playing Dinosaur.

Out for the Team
This episode of the Berenstain Bears teaches about perseverance, when both Brother and Sister want to be on the baseball team. If your family enjoys this, there is another episode where Brother helps a friend learn how to play baseball.

Franklin’s Big Game
This episode of Franklin the Turtle teaches kids about the importance of teamwork!

Players in Pigtails
This picture book is about a player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. This video is also available in Kanopy Kids, if you prefer that service.

The Shape-o-bots: Pentagon
This short clip from Sesame Street explains what a pentagon is and teaches kids about the shape of home plate!
