Who Will Preserve and Tell Our Stories?

Thursday, March 18, 2021, 7 p.m.

In the final session of the Washington, DC:  City of Interest, City of Change series, join staff from DC Public Library’s People’s Archive and Memory Lab on YouTube Live to learn how to preserve the story behind your images through digital preservation and metadata. Preserving the who, what, when and where of your images is a powerful tool in ensuring your community’s story is seen and heard by future generations. Learn how to take steps to document the story of your images and safeguard your collections for generations.

The panel will also share some final thoughts on the importance of the Edward Fletcher photographic collection in helping to preserve the visual history of African Americans living in Washington, D.C.  This session is suitable for all skill levels. No previous knowledge of metadata or digital preservation is necessary.

Panelists: Siobhan Hagan, Memory Lab Network Project Manager; Robert LaRose, Librarian;
 Paul Kelly, Coordinator - Digital Initiatives, Moderator, Eric White, Librarian and FotoCraft Camera Club member
