Bevy Smith Discusses "Bevelations: Lessons from a Mutha, Auntie, Bestie" at Library

DC Public Library and Mocha Media present “The LITerary Lounge With Mocha” series

Before closing for its modernization, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library hosted book talks that featured authors like George Clinton, Issa Rae, Marion Barry and Luvvie Ajayi. Now, the Library is partnering with the Mocha Media, the partner that helped bring these iconic authors, to launch the "The LITerary Lounge With Mocha" with author and pop-culture expert Bevy Smith.

This LITerary Lounge by Mocha is a series of author talks hosted by literary activist, publisher publicist Mocha Ochoa. These illuminating and creative conversations celebrate and spotlight Black authors, thought leaders, innovators and world-changers.

“We are proud to partner with the DC Public Library for this series on Black thought and activism through the written word,” said Mocha Ochoa, founder of Mocha Media. “Books like Bevy Smith are more than memoirs; they are stories that motivate the reader to use the information to improve their life and the lives of others. Using the power of the word as a call to action is what Dr. King did and that is why the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library is the perfect place to hold these conversations.”

Quintessential Harlem girl, Gracie Award winner and life-long New Yorker Bevy Smith is the host of Sirius XM's "Bevelations" on Radio Andy. Once a wildly successful luxury fashion publishing exec, Bevy shifted her professional goals over a decade ago to pursue a life in front of the camera. A pop culture aficionado and fashion expert, Bevy served as moderator of Bravo TV's revolutionary "Fashion Queens," and was a former co-host on the nationally syndicated "Page Six TV." Bevy continues to be part of "The Wendy Williams Show's Style Squad."

In her signature lively and infectious voice, "Bevelations" candidly shares how Smith reclaimed her life and shows how people can manifest their most bodacious dreams. From repossessing her bold childhood nature to becoming her own brand to envisioning her life's next great destination (which will feature natural hair, important charitable giving, and a midcentury house overlooking the Pacific Ocean), Bevy invites readers along on the route of her transformation to reveal how each of us can live our best lives with honesty, joy, and when we're in the mood, a killer pair of shoes.

The event will be streamed on the DC Public Library's YouTube page. Copies of the book are available in the Library’s collection. For more information, visit dclibrary.org/LITLounge
