Mayday 1971: A Conversation with Lawrence Roberts

Monday, May 3, 2021, 7 p.m.

Join us for an author talk featuring journalist, Lawrence Roberts. Roberts will discuss his new publication, Mayday 1971:  A White House at War, a Revolt in the Streets, and the Untold History of America’s Biggest Mass Arrest. This virtual program includes a talk and slideshow presentation of images and resources used in the publication, including Washington Star photographs sourced from the DC Public Library People's Archive collection.  Roberts’ publication, talk and slideshow highlight the significant anniversary in American political history.

Lawrence Roberts has been an editor of investigative journalism for most of his career. He’s worked at the Washington Post, ProPublica, Bloomberg News, and the Hartford Courant, and was executive editor of the Huffington Post Investigative Fund. Over the years, his work with great reporters has received a slew of journalism awards. He’s been a leader on teams honored with three Pulitzer Prizes. These include the 1991 Courant investigation into how and why the Hubble Space Telescope was launched with a crippling flaw; and at the Post, a series of 2005 stories that exposed corruption among lobbyists and lawmakers, and a 2007 project delving into the exercise of power by Vice President Dick Cheney.
