Fatima's Great Outdoors with Politics and Prose LIVE!

Tuesday, June 15, 2021, 4 p.m.

When Ambreen Tariq was eight years old her family moved from India to Minnesota in the depths of winter. When Spring came around her family saved up for a tent and ventured into the great outdoors, an experience that would shape Ambreen’s future path and lead to a life-long love of nature. In Fatima’s Great Outdoors we get a peek into that first camping trip that Ambreen and her family took with all of its joyful and difficult moments. Join us for a conversation with Ambreen and the DC Public Library to discuss her book, her initiative to encourage more people of color to hike and camp, and the importance of environmental advocacy.

We are excited to announce that the first 50 attendees/families to join the event and select the "Free Event Admission + Free Book" option at registration will receive a complimentary copy of Fatima’s Great Outdoors for their home library (one book per family please). Recipients of the complimentary copy will pick their books up at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library starting on June 14. These books are generously donated by the DC Public Library Foundation.

This event is a part of DC Public Library's Summer Challenge. Learn more and sign up for Summer Challenge today!
