Summer Challenge: Family Learning at the Library

Tune in to DC Public Library's YouTube channel or Facebook Live channel (as noted) for fun Summer Challenge live events and videos. Programs and content will cover themes related to STEM/STEAM, history, culture and so much more. These summer programs are recommended for school-aged children and their families.

June 7 - June Is Adopt A Cat Month
Learn about cat adoption and try a fun quiz and craft.

June 9 - DC Map
Learn about information texts and maps, and make your own map of a favorite place.

June 10 - 123 Andrés with Special Guest, Ms. Nikie at 2 pm - Summer Learning Presenter

Andrés gets together with their friend and fellow DC kids' music artist Ms. Niki to create a special song for Washington, DC, and you're invited to create along with them! Watch live on Facebook.


June 11 - Ocean Quiz
Learn about the ocean and then test your knowledge with a fun quiz.

June 14 - Mad Libs Mondays
Play with words in a game of mad libs.

June 15 - Fatimah's Great Outdoors with Politics & Prose LIVE!
Join us for a conversation with Ambreen Tariq and the DC Public Library to discuss her book, her initiative to encourage more people of color to hike and camp, and the importance of environmental advocacy.

June 16 - Paper Science
Explore the history of paper, and learn ideas for experiments that can be done with it.

June 18 - Tasty Trivia: Facts that make you go yum!
Enjoy learning some fun food facts and history.

June 21 - Mad Libs Mondays
Play with words in a game of mad libs.

June 23 - Find Your New Favorite Middle Grade Mystery Books
Learn about three awesome mysteries that are perfect for readers in the 8-12 age range.


June 25 - Insect Quiz
Visit our digital resource page and dive into all sorts of fun virtual books and videos, including ones about insects.


June 28 - Famous Women through History: Sally Ride - Reach for the Stars
Performed by Mary Ann Jung, award winning actress and Smithsonian Scholar courtesy the National Theatre
Learn about America's first female astronaut, including her journey and challenges.


June 30 - Wonders of the Rainforest
Discover some fascinating facts about the world's tropical rainforests.
