DC TO 'THE A'

Read the Writing of Your Favorite Atlanta Housewife

In late 2008, one of the most influential reality shows in TV history aired: The Real Housewives of Atlanta. 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' (RHOA) introduced us to a funny, vibrant, elaborate group of women living and learning, lavishly, in and around Atlanta. While cast members have come, gone, and come again, the show remains a fan favorite, still, almost 13 years later. But did you know some of your favorite Housewives were authors, too? Check out this booklist for more!

Never Make the Same Mistake Twice: Lessons on Love and Life Learned the Hard Way by Nene Leakes with Denene Millner

Nene Leakes is, hands down, the breakout star of RHOA. Since the show's debut, she's solidified herself as the ultimate TV star with groundbreaking moments and memorable "bloops" that are forever ingrained in pop culture history.  In 2009, Leakes took her star a bit further by releasing a book with Denene Millner called, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice: Lessons on Love and Life Learned the Hard Way. In it, she details her painful childhood, her journey through single motherhood, and her dream determinations. If you're a Nene Leakes fan AND you miss the early days of RHOA, this one's for you.

Wives, Fiancees, and Sidechicks of Atlanta by Sheree Whitfield

Another veteran of the RHOA franchise is Sheree Whitfield. Whitfield began her Housewives journey as a recent divorcee and mother of three who loved the finer things in life. As the series grew, she explored love, life, and entrepreneurship; and solidified herself as the "bone-collector"---see show for more.  But not only was she the bone-collector (the person who collects personal information to share with others in hopes of "keeping it real"), she also became an author. In her fictional tale, Wives, Fiancees, and Sidechicks of Atlanta,  Whitfield explores the thin line between popularity and personal goals. If you're interested in reading more about Whitfield's fictional character, Sasha Wellington, and how she balances the two, this book's for you.

Blessed Life: My Surprising Journey of Joy, Tears, and Tales from Harlem to Hollywood by Kim Fields with Todd Gold

An unlikely, but notable, member of the RHOA franchise? Kim Fields. Fields is a well-known director, producer, and actress best known for her roles in the 80s  and  90s TV classics, Facts of Life and Living Single. With just one season under her belt, she shared her journey as a mother, wife, and creative businesswoman. With a laid-back but no-nonsense approach, Fields became the center of season-long storylines. After that, she went on to write a book with Todd Gold called, Blessed Life: My Surprising Journey of Joy, Tears, and Tales from Harlem to Hollywood. Blessed Life explores the journey of "living, learning, and keen moments of self-discovery".  If you're a Kim Fields fan, this one's for you.

Secrets of the Southern Belle: How to be Nice, Work Hard, Look Pretty, Have fun, and Never Have an Off Moment by Phaedra Parks

Some Housewives are memorable, and some Housewives are MEMORABLE. With her wit, charm, and "southern" shade, Phaedra Parks was (and still is) a fan favorite.  On the show, she shared her life as a wife, mother, attorney, and serial entrepreneur. Fun fact: she's also a mortician. A self-proclaimed, "southern belle", Parks went on to write a book with almost the same name---Secrets of the Southern Belle: How to Be Nice, Work Hard, Look Pretty, Have Fun, and Never Have an Off Moment. In it, she shares tips on becoming your best self---the southern belle way. If you miss Phaedra's phaedrisms, this one's for you.
