Explore a multi-media installation at three library locations produced over a series of interactive community workshops. The installations were created through a series of workshops hosted by the Folger Shakespeare Library over the past year, using visual arts, writing, and performance.

Participant paints at a DC and Me visual arts workshop

Participants were invited to creatively explore the “Past, Present & Future D.C." by responding to prompts, such as:

What do you believe are the untold stories of your communities’ history?

What is the story of the moment? What do you want to ensure is remembered for the future?

What are your deepest dreams for your community’s future?

The outcome of the participants’ writing, performance activities, and visual artwork will be on display this spring and summer in installations uniquely tailored to their location. Installations will be on view on the following schedule:

  • Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Library: April 24–May 30, 2024
  • Anacostia Neighborhood Library: June 1–July 24, 2024
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library: July 26–September 10, 2024

DC & Me is the first part of the three-part DC Amplified project presented by the Folger Shakespeare Library. The project seeks to gather and uplift community stories within Washington, DC. DC & Me is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
