2022 Ori Soltes Lecture Series: The Call of the Wild
For the Spring 2022 series, Georgetown professor Ori Soltes introduces to readers a variety of works focused on this theme: The Age of Adventure and Exploration
The first book discussed in this lecture series was The Call of the Wild by Jack London.
In Dr. Soltes's own words, this reading is a foundational American adventure/exploration story that carries its protagonist out into the woods and up into the Alaskan wilderness in the context of the 1890 Klondike Gold Rush—an expansive realm within the vast continent with so much wild and unexplored territory. An American classic from the dawn of the last century and an appropriate beginning point for our adventurous literary explorations.
The West End branch and community are grateful to host this lecture series. A special thanks to the West End Neighborhood Library Friends and Dr. Soltes for their generous support.
