Hey Kids, Reading is Fun!
Read Across America
Read Across America is a nation-wide celebration of reading that falls on or around Dr. Seuss’ birthday designed to engage kids in reading books. Despite the recent controversy surrounding a lack of diversity in Dr. Seuss' books, we displayed some of Dr. Seuss works that showcased his trademark illustration style and rhyming that we all grew up on being read to at bedtime, gathering in classrooms for story time, or leaning how to rhyme by reading a book with family and friends. We kicked off a mini read-a-thon of classic Dr. Seuss books like Green Eggs and Ham, Fox in Socks, Hop on Pop, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, The Foot Book, and There's a Wocket in my Pocket to name a few. In one shape or another, all of these classic titles have inspired a passion for reading and endless creativity that spans generations.
Not sure what book this kid read yesterday standing with our Children's Librarian, Yvonne Harris sporting the signature Seuss hat. But he was super excited to receive his certificate and candy for participating. See kids...reading can be fun and rewarding!
