Preteen Video Game Tournaments

Since last December, the West End Neighborhood Library has been hosting Preteen Video Game Tournaments that have catered to the West End neighborhood's middle school students. Every 2-3 weeks, these young gamers have gathered in the library's Large Meeting Room to test their racing skills at Mario Kart or to score a flawless victory against their opponents in Super Smash Bros.

The most recent video game tournament was on Thursday, April 28, 2022. Six preteens gathered raced against each other for the top score in Mario Kart. The Children's Library Associate, Cal, entered the race toward the of the tournament, but his preteen competitors thoroughly trounced him in nearly every round. It's quite hard to navigate the turtle shells, ink splatters, and other obstacles on the track, but several of the preteen contestants maneuvered around them effortlessly.

The West End Neighborhood Library will continue hosting the Preteen Video Game Tournaments on the following spring dates:

  • Thursday, May 12; 3:45 pm - 5:30 pm
