The Popular Library houses some of our customers’ most sought-after materials. The audio-visual component of the collection includes DVDs, CDs and recorded books. 

DVD collection highlights include:

  • Nonfiction documentaries that cover a broad range of subject material
  • Many television series and mini-series both from the United States and abroad
  • Numerous films, including new releases, classic titles and foreign films

Music CDs feature a large variety of music that ranges from contemporary R&B to folk music from Ireland.
Recorded books include fiction, nonfiction and language instruction on CD. Customers can also check out Playaways, which are MP3 players featuring popular titles. In addition, our customers can access titles, music, ebooks and videos that can be downloaded to their personal MP3/digital audio readers/players via the Overdrive station located in the division. 

Written materials in the Popular Library include fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, and a highly used African-American and Urban Fiction section. The division also houses a continually growing large print fiction and nonfiction collection. New materials are highlighted by placing these titles at the entrance to the Popular Library division.

The Popular Library’s programs include author talks, book signings by authors, book discussion groups, and film series dealing with topical subject s or programs taking place within the library system.
