Cool Off with Summer Reading

The 2010 Summer Reading Program starts June 1st at DC Public Library.  The theme for children and youth ages birth - 14 is Make a Splash!  The theme for teens ages 12 – 17 is Make Waves.  To enhance our water theme we have a variety of library programs and special performances.  Along with our regular story times and arts and crafts we will be having a luau kick-off party for all ages, movie nights, guest storytellers, a National Opera performance, a gardening program, and living classrooms.

If your child or teen signs up for summer reading as either an individual reader or a family reader (babies, toddlers, and beginning readers) they have the opportunity to set their own reading goal and win fun prizes.  The reading goal this summer will be tracked by minutes read instead of by books read for children in the birth-14 age category.  Teens can choose to read by minutes or by number of books read.  Everyone can set a reading goal that fits their summer schedule so everybody can reap the benefits of summer reading.
