Join Dr. Lauren Pearlman, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Florida at Gainesville, for a discussion of her new book, Democracy’s Capital: Black Political Power in Washington, DC 1960s-1970s [5], which narrates the struggle for self-participation in the nation’s capital. Pearlman captures the transition from black protest to black political power under the Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon administrations and against the backdrop of local battles over the War on Poverty and the War on Crime.
