Let's kick off Pride [5] season by celebrating LGBTQ+ writers, especially works by African American writers. Here in D.C., the virtual event Black in Space [6] will celebrate and uplift the Black LGBTQ+ experience across time and space.

To join the celebration, here is a fabulous playlist of queer sci-fi, fantasy and horror for you to enjoy and dance across the universe.

  • An Unkindness of Ghosts [7] by Rivers Solomon: A heady science-fiction novel that speaks directly to some of the most pressing political and social concerns of the modern day.
  • Dhalgren [8] by Sam Delaney: A giant in the world of science-fiction, Delaney's Dhalgren is a labyrinth of a novel that raises questions about race, sexuality, identity and art, but gives no easy answers, in a city that reshapes itself with each step you take.
  • A Spectral Hue [9] by Craig Gidney: From Lambda Literary Award-nominated author (and D.C. Resident) Gidney, this is a novel of art, obsession and the ghosts that haunt us all.
  • This is How you Lose the Time War [10] by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone: Two time-traveling agents from warring futures, working their way through the past, begin to exchange letters—and fall in love in this thrilling and romantic book.
  • The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet [11] by Becky Chambers: Follow a motley crew on an exciting journey through space—and one adventurous young explorer who discovers the meaning of family in the far reaches of the universe—in this light-hearted debut space opera.
  • We are the Ants [12] by Shaun David Hutchison: From the world of YA fiction, a novel about a teenage boy who must decide whether or not the world is worth saving.

  • LGBTQ - Adults [13]
  • LGBTQ Pride [14]
