-------------------------------------------

The DC Public Library Sing, Talk & Read Family Festival hosted hundreds of kids and families on September 8, 2018 at the Deanwood Library and Recreation Center.

This event, which celebrates the importance of early literacy, was a great success due in part to our great partnership with the Dept. of Parks and Recreation. We were able to take advantage of our Deanwood branch location and the wonderful Deanwood Recreation Center facilities which boast a sizeable gym which we transformed into a play space where families could participate in a number of early literacy activities led by the Library's talented children's librarians.

Through partnerships with Safeway and the DC Public Library Foundation’s relationship with the Jefferson Hotel and Honest Tea,  we were able to provide patrons with fruit, water, juice and healthy sandwiches for lunch in addition to valuable information about the Library’s free early literacy services that can help parents better prepare their children for kindergarten.

As always, the festival is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the community of support behind early education in Washington, D.C. with organizations like My School DC, OSSE, DC Central Kitchen, DC Childcare Connections, East of the River Family Strengthening Collaborative, WHUT-TV and DC United in attendance just to name a few.
