Join us on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. for a citizenship informational session presented by CARECEN and the Takoma Park Neighborhood Library.Participants will learn about: Eligibility requirements for naturalization Exceptions The steps of the process/timeline Documents/information needed to apply The interview and exam Citizenship resources and assistance The presentation will end with a Q&A session and distribution of citizenship related materials provided by USCIS.

Spring is coming!

For this weekend’s Craft-ernoon -- on March 8 at 2 p.m. -- we will all work together to create a collage that will be part of our spring-themed bulletin board in the children’s area. This craft differs in that we will not be producing something to take home.

Imagine ordering your house through the mail. Imagine it arriving in a big box of boards, nails and window panes. You could put it together yourself or hire somebody to do it.  This is what a lot of people did in Takoma in the early 20th century.

Gee's Bend Paper Quilts

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Black History Month Craft-ernoon and made these beautiful designs. Here is how they came out! We used paper, glue and scissors to create these patterns with inspiration from the quilts from the community of Gee's Bend, Ala. We do a new craft every other Saturday at 2 p.m. - all are welcome!

Globetrekking through lit!

Last month, I announced a New Year's resolution I was starting: To read a book or piece of literature by an author from every country in the world. I marked off some countries with authors that I had already read and when I wrote last time, I was beginning with the novel Disgrace, by South African writer J.M. Coetzee. My list of completed reads has expanded, and here is an update!
