Family Craft-ernoon


This Saturday, Nov. 30, we will be making snowflake ornaments to hang on doors, trees, or even wreaths. The possibilities are endless, and so is the fun!Please join us from 1-2 p.m. Materials include pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, and, of course, glitter!

Events for All Ages

Every DC Public Library branch is planning a special Sunday event to get the word out about our new Sunday hours. Sunday, Dec. 8 will be the Takoma Park branch celebration. We have something for everyone!Check out our event lineup:1-5 p.m. Digital Bar. Browse the latest collection of ereader devices and how you can get digital library content.1-2 p.m. American Sign Language Story Time with craft activity. There will also be PAL (People Animals Love) therapy dogs available to interact with children.

For November, the Parent-Child Book Club read Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater.  It was very well liked by the children.

Turkey Hands

Now that we are getting Halloween out of the way, what's up next?Thanksgiving, of course!Come create this classic Thanksgiving craft with us on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. We will be using the silhouette of our hands to create cute turkey decorations from construction paper.Ages 10 and younger.

Kids Euro Festival


Want to see some fantastic UK short films for children and families?Come to the Takoma Park Library on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m.The British Council Film is partnering with FILMCLUB to showcase some UK short film gems from the last five years, including animation, live action and documentary.The film screenings will be followed by an interactive workshop with Jerome Monohan.

This Saturday we made masks out of construction paper and various craft supplies. This is part of our on-going family program, Family Craft-ernoons, every other Saturday 1-2 p.m. Our next craft-ernoon will be Nov. 2!


Story Times and Party

Come get in the mood and celebrate the week of Halloween at the Takoma Park Library!We will kick off the week with a Monster PJ Story Time on Monday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, we will have a Witch Story Time at 10:45 a.m. We will end the week with a Halloween Party on Thursday at 6 p.m. with a costume contest, fortune telling and ghost story time for ages 10 and younger.

Pumpkin Masks

Join us on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m. as we make masks that look like pumpkins -- or jack-o-lanterns -- you decide!Using construction paper, crayons and other materials, we will create fun masks for the changing season, or for Halloween. Participants will, with the help of their parents, cut out their patterns and decorate the masks however they see fit. This activity is designed to be open-ended to give the most creative license to our crafters.For ages 10 and younger.
