Watch a short presentation about the important role mural making has played in the development of the District’s Latino community, and join in the discussion with artists, community activists and local scholars at this free event held with Hola Cultura, a nonprofit that celebrates the arts and contributions of Latinos in Washington, D.C.

UNCENSORED DC: DIY Wheatpasting with Artist Dana Jeri Maier

Learn to wheatpaste, the art of gluing oversized photocopies to walls, with artist and cartoonist Dana Jeri Maier. You will learn how to go from an 8"x10'' drawing to a large-scale, finished wheatpaste, where to buy materials for cheap, and all about the beauty of impermanent street art. Glue, brushes, and drawing materials will be provided for in-class demonstrations and there will be a final group art project. This program is part of DCPL's month-long celebration of Banned Books, and is made possible by the DC Public Library Foundation.

Totally Totes

Bring an old t-shirt and learn how to quickly upcycle it into a useful tote bag. This project can be done in ten minutes without any sewing involved, but we'll also have supplies on hand for decorating and upgrading your bag if you'd like to stick around! This project is aimed at adults and teens, but children with a helpful and crafty caretaker in tow are welcome too.

DIY Clothing Repair Workshop

Bring your (clean!) damaged garment and we'll work together to figure out how to patch or mend it. Sewing machines and hand sewing tools will be provided. While we work, we'll discuss sustainable approaches to buying and maintaining our wardrobes.
