Summer Reading Kickoff!

Join us as we celebrate our kickoff for summer reading! Adults, children, and teens will be able to sign up on Beanstack for our popular summer program; learn more about gardening and sustainable living; and participate in environmentally focused activities including outdoor fun, Chia Pet creation, and crafts. 

Murals, Music & Makers

Words Beats & Life encourages creativity and fosters production techniques utilizing the cultural heritage of Washington, D.C. Teens will create murals with multi-color stencils on parachute cloth, wheat paste their creations on temporary walls throughout the city, plus learn about digital music production with DJ mash-up instruction, all while utilizing inspiration from the likes of Langston Hughes, Marvin Gaye, Bad Brains, Wale and other artistic DC legends.

The DC Punk Archive is taking it to the roof this summer for a series of concerts outside on the 3rd floor terrace at Woodridge! Join us for a night of local music overlooking Langdon Park and learn more about the DC Punk Archive collection.

Words, Beats and Life Academy - WOD Wrap Party!

Words, Beats and Life Academy began at Woodridge on January 11, 2017; for six months, tweens and teens learned the Hip-Hop arts of DJing, beat making and writing rhymes. While the young patrons discovered new skills in this music genre, they simultaneously enhanced their literacy and math skills as well.

Bike To Work Day

Visit a librarian during National Bike To Work Day at Freedom Plaza from 7- 9 a.m.! DCPL Staff will be outside with bike-themed books, giveaways and upcoming program information. Talk to us about the MLK renovation project, learn about this year's summer reading, or return that book you keep forgetting to bring to your neighborhood library.

Be Empowered - A Workshop for Teens and Preteens

Join us for a workshop presented by the Greater Washington Women's Network.Participants will raise awareness on how to boost their confidence by: Defining self-esteem and self-worth Identifying accomplishments, talents and skills Recognizing strengths and weaknesses Exercising ways to build self-confidence Exploring methods to appreciate and respect others
