Words, Beats and Life Academy - WOD Wrap Party!

Words, Beats and Life Academy began at Woodridge on January 11, 2017; for six months, tweens and teens learned the Hip-Hop arts of DJing, beat making and writing rhymes. While the young patrons discovered new skills in this music genre, they simultaneously enhanced their literacy and math skills as well.

Murals, Music & Makers

Words Beats & Life encourages creativity and fosters production techniques utilizing the cultural heritage of Washington, D.C. Teens will create murals with multi-color stencils on parachute cloth, wheat paste their creations on temporary walls throughout the city, plus learn about digital music production with DJ mash-up instruction, all while utilizing inspiration from the likes of Langston Hughes, Marvin Gaye, Bad Brains, Wale and other artistic DC legends.

Visit a librarian during National Bike To Work Day at Freedom Plaza from 7- 9 a.m.! DCPL Staff will be outside with bike-themed books, giveaways and upcoming program information. Talk to us about the MLK renovation project, learn about this year's summer reading, or return that book you keep forgetting to bring to your neighborhood library.
