Graphic Novels Are Books Too

Graphic Novels for Readers Who Don't Like Graphic Novels

I have a love-hate relationship with graphic novels. On the one hand the stories are just as great as the non-graphic novels. On the other, what's with all the pictures? I am told they are supposed to enhance the story which I suppose is true, but sometimes it feels as if my mind was made up for me. Being a librarian pretty much implies that I am a book lover and I cannot discriminate against my literature babies. I'm not a monster! So I have decided to give these graphic novels a try and thought I would share my experience with you. Happy Reading!

Graphic Novels for Beginners

From graphic novel newbie to fan in 5 books

Graphic novels have gotten increasingly more popular, but I have to admit I initially had a hard time getting into the format. For someone who was never into comic books as a kid, my eyes get easily overwhelmed with the explosion of activity that happens in graphic novels. What comes as second nature for a seasoned graphic novel fan - taking in the story simultaneously through the illustrations, the expository text, the speech bubbles, and the action bubbles or knowing which panel to look at next - requires a lot more concentration for me than reading a traditional book.

When most people think of libraries, they imagine a quiet, boring place where librarians shush people for even sneezing. In reality, libraries aren't like that at all. Sometimes they're...DANGEROUS! Being a place for the public, you never know who will walk through those doors. And what exactly does a librarian do? Below I have compiled a list of books set in unusual libraries and about the crazy librarians that run them. Enjoy!

Books Without Words? Can Such Things Be?

A list for adults and kids alike

When you think about books, you generally imagine words on a page. Pictures may or may not be included. But this isn't always the case. Stories without words are more common for children, but there are some really excellent ones for adults as well. Here are some good stories without words for both young and old. Adults
