YA Books with Muslim Main Characters

#WeNeedDiverseBooks in YA, right? What about books starring Muslim teens? Every one of these teens have their own unique story to tell - whether it's suddenly getting superpowers, finding faith or losing it, or just learning to survive. But one thing they have in common is that they all come from a Muslim background. The following novels and graphic novels come highly recommended.

Books Without Words? Can Such Things Be?

A list for adults and kids alike

When you think about books, you generally imagine words on a page. Pictures may or may not be included. But this isn't always the case. Stories without words are more common for children, but there are some really excellent ones for adults as well. Here are some good stories without words for both young and old. Adults

Ultimate Spider-Man 1

Superheroes Reimagined

Your favorite characters reinvented!

Graphic novels today are more diverse and have more variety than ever. The following titles and series explore classic characters in new ways, or completely reinvent them for a new generation. While I like the classic Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and Captain Marvel, I love their newest versions!

Bleach

Hot Manga for the Soul

A Brief Guide for all Otaku

For those who enjoy the vast world of anime, you're probably familiar with the source material that is manga also. DC Public Library has a number of series that range in sub-genre spanning across action, suspense, comedy, slice of life, dystopian themes, dark undertones, shōnen, shōjo, and many others. If you consider yourself an avid reader, or a casual fan looking to build a queue, please consider these recommendations for your reading pleasure.

The Secret History of Wonder Woman

Great Books About Comics

Check out these titles to learn more about the history of comic books!

Summer Reading Club 2015 has begun and this year’s theme is “Every Hero Has a Story!” In honor of this theme the library is having a number of programs about all types of heroes, both real and super. There are many great superhero comics, but there are many great books about comics you should check out. These are some of my favorites:

Johnny Hiro: half asian, all hero

Not Your Typical Hero

Graphic novels that feature non-traditional heroes

Graphic Novels are somewhat contentious in the literary sphere. Are they really books? Do they merit the same sort of acclaim as other written works? I am, without a doubt, a member of the "Graphic Novels Are Amazing" club, and as such I believe it's my duty to share with you all some wonderful graphic novel titles. Since graphic novels come in a number of sub-genres, I've decided to limit this list to those that deal with heroes. Heroes don't necessarily need to be caped crusaders or have super human powers, and these titles prove just that.

Comic Books

Parklands-Turner Comic Book Club

The Parklands-Turner Neighborhood Library has a terrific collection of comic books and graphic novels.  Children and teens are encouraged you to come in and enjoy one of the comics on display, or select an item from the catalog from any library in the city and have it delivered to Parklands-turner, epsecially for you!
