Books About (Mostly) Natural Childbirth

While no childbirth experience is probably "by the book," reading others' experiences and some professional tips can be empowering and encouraging. These books focus mostly on encouraging natural childbirthing methods and outline some of the difficulties with unneeded medical intervention in the process. However, as all these books will point out, part of the birthing process for many women is learning that they are not in control, and so there is also information here about what happens when medical intervention is called for.

Summer of Safe Sex

Sexual health education and testing with the Latin American Youth Center

Start the summer off right! Stop by, get informed, and get tested Thursday, June 11 from 3-6 p.m. in the large meeting room on the main floor. Service Providers from the Latin American Youth Center will be on hand to talk about condoms, HIV, STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), testing resources in the D.C. area, and answer any questions you might have. Free and confidential testing will be available.

Dr. Neal Barnard is a physician and researcher whose area of interest is diet and health. He is the founder and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Dr. Barnard is particularly interested in diabetes. He will speak about the connection between diet and health. The event is free and open to the public.
